The installed capacity of the photovoltaic systems, which convert light into electricity, is expected to reach 321 megawatts annually.
This massive plant’s 6 million panels alone account for 1% of the globe’s solar photovoltaic capacity. Developed by the state-owned China Power Investment Corporation, the mammoth facility can generate 3.2 billion kilowatt-hours annually, enough to avoid 2 million tons of carbon emissions.
In that time China has become the world's leading supplier of solar panels, driving down costs all across the supply chain. That has helped make solar and wind installations in China economically competitive. Subsidies have played their part, as have regulations requiring each province to hit green energy targets.
