This famous short story stays current since it teaches children ways to protect themselves and their loved ones. Although Little Red Riding Hood may seem like just the story of a girl who must go across the forest to visit her grandmother and ends up saving herself from the trap of an evil wolf, this children’s tale represents so much more.
The story follows a young girl, known as Little Red Riding Hood, who is given a red hooded cape by her grandmother. One day, her mother asks her to deliver some food to her sick grandmother, who lives in a cottage deep in the woods. On her way to her grandmother’s house, Little Red Riding Hood encounters a cunning wolf.
Sanitized versions of the story have the grandmother locked in the closet rather than being eaten and some have Little Red Riding Hood saved by the lumberjack as the wolf advances on her rather than after she is eaten, where the woodcutter kills or simply chases away the wolf with his axe.
Despite the so-called good intentions the wolf presented to Little Red Riding Hood, he had a hidden agenda. Back in its time, this story was created to raise awareness among young girls about the dangers of trusting strangers.
