Tesla''s energy storage and generation revenues have tripled since 2020, largely driven by its growing deployments of the company''s Megapack battery storage systems. The California-headquartered technology
According to the company, in Q4, Tesla Energy generation and storage revenues increased by 10% year-over-year to $1.438 billion (5.7% of the total revenues), while the cost of revenues amounted to $1.124 billion. In 2023, Tesla deployed almost 15 gigawatt-hour (GWh) of battery energy storage systems (BESS), which is 125% more than in 2022.
Tesla doesn’t separate solar and energy storage revenue. More importantly, the cost of revenue for its solar and energy storage business was $781 million, meaning that for the first time the total cost of producing and distributing these energy storage products was lower than the revenue it generated. That’s good news.
Tesla on Monday reported $801 million in revenue from its energy generation and storage business — which includes three main products: solar, its Powerwall storage device for homes and businesses, and its utility storage unit Megapack — but that’s just a sliver of the nearly $12 billion in total revenue.
Tesla says it has recorded a significant increase in energy storage deployment, officially reporting revenue for 9.4 GWh of deployed storage products in the second quarter of 2024. From pv magazine USA
The California-headquartered technology company reported its Q4 and full-year 2023 financial results yesterday. It said energy storage deployments for last year totalled 14,724MWh, which is a company record. Tesla’s energy storage and generation revenues have tripled since 2020, largely driven by deployments of Megapack battery storage systems.
A big boost for Tesla energy storage sales is the launch of the all-new Megapack factory in Lathrop, California ( announced in 2021 ), which is expected to produce 40 GWh of Powerpack battery systems annually. That's an order of magnitude more than the total deployment in 2021 (3,392 MWh). Tesla offers three main types of ESS products:
