Solar power in Somalia is, in 2012, being considered for development in the near future. [1] Two items that are being made available in seven other African countries in the "Light Years Ahead" program that are being considered are solar lanterns and solar street lights. [2] India has a very successful solar lamp program.
This study explores Somalia's energy profile and the potential for harnessing solar energy. The installed photovoltaic capacity was found to be 41 MW and contributed 11.9% of the total electricity generation. A case study on a solar power microgrid system in Bacadweyene, Somalia, is also presented.
In Somalia, there has been substantial progress in solar capacity installation in recent years. For example, ESPs have employed 27 MW of PV systems in 2021 and beyond, and this represents a notable increase compared to previous years.
The average yearly irradiation for 11 years of Somalia was obtained in terms of maximum radiation in Bari and minimum radiation in the Middle Juba region.
